Michael White

Vice President, Portfolio Manager

Michael is a portfolio manager for the Commerce Trust. Upon gaining a thorough understanding of a client’s needs and goals as well as assessing the client’s entire financial situation, he works with our investment research team to construct a portfolio to help clients achieve their long-term goals. 

Michael comprehensively represents our research- and goals-based investment process, starting with the initial assessment and creation of an investment objective to ongoing evaluation and adjustments based on changing market and life circumstances. With a deep knowledge of the market and experience in investment management, he serves clients with thought leadership, insight, and consulting services. Michael has more than 20 years of investment management experience. During his tenure at Commerce Trust, Michael has served on the Investment Policy, the Equity Strategy, and the Fixed Income Strategy committees. He has also served as the telecommunications equipment sector analyst and the transportation sector analyst for the Commerce Growth strategy.

Michael earned his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration and accounting from the University of Kansas. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation and is a member of both the CFA Society Kansas City and the CFA Institute. He is a past president of CFA Society Kansas City.

Michael is actively involved with his oldest son's Boy Scout troop and with his youngest son's Cub Scout pack. As an assistant scoutmaster, he attends monthly campouts with his oldest son, and as the Cub Scout pack committee chairperson, he helps coordinate monthly Cub Scout pack activities. He is also involved with the youth ministry at his church. In his spare time, Michael enjoys spending time with his family and friends. He is a fan of two things Kansas City is known for: jazz and barbecue. He is a trumpet player with the Moon City Big Band, a traditional big band jazz band that plays once each month at a local coffee house. He is also a member of a barbecue team that competes locally, including in the American Royal BBQ.
