David is the chief investment officer for Commerce Trust and of Commerce Investment Advisors, Inc., the SEC-registered advisor to the Commerce Funds mutual fund complex. Upon gaining a thorough understanding of a client’s needs and goals as well as assessing the client’s entire financial situation, he works with our investment research team to construct a portfolio to help clients achieve their long-term goals.
David has been with Commerce Bank for more than 25 years and Commerce Trust since 2000. During his tenure with Commerce Trust, he has held positions of increasing responsibility, serving as an investment portfolio manager for both private and institutional clients, the director of portfolio management for the eastern region, and now his current role as Chief Investment Officer. David also hosts Conversations with Commerce Trust, a monthly podcast about the markets, investment themes, and economic insights that matter to investors.
David earned his Bachelor of Arts from Washington University in St. Louis. He is a member of the CFA Institute and the St. Louis Society of Financial Analysts.
He is a board member and treasurer of Aim High St. Louis, and a board member of the Opera Theatre of St. Louis and International Institute of St. Louis. Additionally, David serves as president of the investment committee of the Center of Creative Arts (COCA). He is also a member of the investment committee for the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and Forest Park Forever.

Scott is the chief economist and director of fixed income management with Commerce Trust.
He joined Commerce in 1993 and has investment responsibilities for over $26 billion in fixed income assets. Scott directly manages the Commerce Short-Term Government and the flagship Commerce Bond strategies.
Scott received his Bachelor of Science degree in nuclear engineering from the University of Cincinnati in 1986 and received his Master of Business Administration from Xavier University in 1988. He has been both a director and president of the Chartered Financial Analyst Society of St. Louis.
As the Chief Market Strategist at Commerce Trust, KC holds a key contributing role in the development and execution of the firm’s market strategy with a focus on equity investments. In addition, he serves on Commerce Trust’s Investment Policy Committee and as a thought leader for the firm on investment, market and related topics.
Prior to joining Commerce Trust in 2023, KC served as the Chief Investment Officer at UMB Bank. In this capacity, he oversaw the strategic development and execution of UMB’s $12 billion investment management division. He also counseled high profile private and institutional clients on investment management matters. Previously, KC held positions of increased responsibility within the trust division of the Bank of Oklahoma.
KC holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Minnesota and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame. He is a graduate of the ABA National Trust School at Northwestern University and completed an advanced investment management education program at the Harvard Business School. KC earned the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation and is member of the CFA Institute. He also is a past president of the CFA® Society of Kansas City.
